Disheartened...

This is totally my post...

So, I've had the pleasure of talking to the division manager in Illinois about all the shortcomings of our SR. While I feel that things MAY start to go smoothly I'm just not feeling this process and the exorbitant lies...

The water softener issue was my first gripes. There is in fact a water softener in the model so I assumed it could be done in our home. I emailed SR to inquire and she never replied. So we stopped into the model and the other SR called the PM and asked him. PM claimed no they don't offer them and no rough in as well. So I let it go. I was contacted by the division manager after the whole pre construction meeting debacle. I brought up the lack of communication with SR. I told him we had to go in to get answers. Now get this...

He calls me back and tells me that a rough in IS in fact offered. That there are 2 homes in the subdivision who have a rough in!!!

PM not only told the other SR it was not offered, he also told my husband this at the preconstruction meeting!!

What is with the lies? Seriously?

Now the garage door opener. So SR tells us that they are included on both doors. At the preconstruction meeting PM tells my husband only one is. I bring this up to the division manager and he looks into it. MORE LIES!!

Needless to say we are now getting the garage door openers for both doors.

Someone gave me the advice to get it all in writing. You shouldn't have to go through this when building a home. I feel like a fool because we've been told lies at every step.

My advice for anyone who comes across this and is considering building with ANY builder... GET IT ALL IN WRITING. Everything.

I will say I have been pleased with the communication of upper management. They have been very responsive.

I think it was Laurlew who said it best. You think they would give you a couple can lights or some outlets for your trouble. Yes, Ryan, you should. Can lights, trim packages, or outlets would suffice just fine. Don't lie about it either...

Have a good weekend all!

Oh, we are breaking ground on Thursday. I should be excited but I don't know if they are lying yet or not...

  1. Oh Bridget! I'm so sorry this has been so frustrating for ya'll! I agree that getting everything in writing is CRUCIAL. I wonder if the SR's or PM's were lying... or were just LAZY? Like, they just told you they couldn't do it because they didn't feel like checking. Either way it's bad, but I would hope they didn't just flat out lie to you. Once again, I am convinced that having a good experience with Ryan is completely dependent on your SR and then your PM.
How exciting that groundbreaking is on Thursday! We are going to be home-building twinsies!!! Can't wait to see our progress together!!!

    1. LuLu-

I'm trying to read them but it's hard for me to tell. I actually met someone who just closed on their house in our subdivision. She raved about how good the SR and PM were... I just couldn't believe the total 180 we are experiencing!

I really can't wait to get started. I'm hoping now the hiccups are out of the way and the build is smooth. I can't wait to see your home!

  2. Bridget I am so sorry for the trouble you all have had with your SR and PM. That is a huge disappointment because they are so involved with everything that is done involving your home. But soon you all will be on the home stretch and I really hope the best works itself out for you! :) It's going to be such a beautiful home either way. :)

    1. Thanks Michelle! I keep feeling like once they break ground I will feel much better about it. It's just so sad that they feel the need to lie...

  3. I'm so sorry they keep lying! We were lied to about things as you know, so I know how annoying it is! I don't understand the point of lying! I have no idea how lying benefits them either so I agree with Lulu about them just being too lazy to double check things for you! Makes me want to scream! Lol!
Congrats on starting on Thursday! You'll officially be done with your SR at least! You're home will be beautiful though and hopefully everything goes smoothly from here on out!

  4. So sorry about all that you are going through! We had some issues with our sales staff too - to the point that I haven't even felt like blogging in weeks. Not sure why ryan homes doesn't understand good customer service in the front office, but it seems like they reserve all the pleasantries for the folks that haven't signed a contract yet. I look forward to the day we don't have to deal with sales reps anymore!

    1. Oh no Starlet- when our SR became too much to deal with I decided to go on social media and complain. I jumped on twitter and said my piece. By 10am the next morning the sales director for Illinois was calling me. If you are unhappy to the level I am please do that. It will give you a chance to speak your mind.

I feel that with certain SR's they completely dropped the ball. Funny story.... Our SR worked for another builder before Ryan. Good friends of ours actually built with that builder and warned us beforehand. Stupidly I trusted her. I figured for all this money there has to be some accountability. Yeah, I was mistaken.

Good luck. I hope it gets better for you.

  5. Sorry to hear the troubles so far. I'm sure it will get better. I learned early on that you have to stay on them when they tell you something. Trust but verify! If they say they are breaking ground and it doesnt happen when they say, immediately challenge the PM why it hasnt? Every update you get from PM, make sure you follow up and verify it is happening and find out why it isn't. It will get better over time and as you build a rapport with your PM.
